Riot Secures Record-Breaking $9.1 Billion AI Deal Amid Anthropic IPO Buzz
The Anthropic IPO has gained attention as Riot Platforms secured a massive AI deal worth $9.1 billion by June 2048, according to a report.
Anthropic is reportedly engaging in talks with investors ahead of its possible IPO in September or early October, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The firm's expansion into AI technology has been notable, especially given OpenAI's slower pace towards an IPO. Anthropic is behind the development of Claude AI and has ties to Riot Platforms' huge data center deal.
Riot entered a 20-year lease agreement with an undisclosed 'leading frontier AI lab' for 191 megawatts of critical IT capacity on its campus in Rockdale, Texas. The deal is expected to generate $9.1 billion in income by June 2048, potentially rising to $16.1 billion if two five-year extensions are exercised.
Riot shares surged around 24% after the announcement, highlighting the market's strong reaction to the long-term AI contract. This trend of Bitcoin mining companies exploring alternative sources of revenue is shifting the focus towards AI and HPCs.
