Ripple-SEC Case Nears Conclusion: Final Judgment Expected This Week
The long-running legal battle between Ripple and the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is nearing its conclusion. A final judgment on penalties and injunctions is expected this week, nearly four years after the case began in December 2020.
The SEC accused Ripple of selling unregistered securities, but Ripple countered that XRP is a digital currency like Bitcoin. Judge Analisa Torres has already issued a partial ruling, classifying XRP sales on exchanges as non-security but deeming institutional trades to be securities.
Legal experts predict the final judgment will come in early August, despite some uncertainty due to ongoing motions. However, settlement rumors have been dismissed, with proponents arguing that it would not yield significant benefits for either party.
