Ripple's 1 Billion XRP Unlock Set for October 1

Ripple's XRP escrow unlock is just around the corner, set to release 1 billion XRP on October 1. This marks the tenth such unlock this year and continues the company's long-standing monthly schedule established in 2017. At a current price of $1.47 per token, the upcoming release has a notional value of $1.47 billion.

However, it's essential to note that not all of the unlocked XRP enters circulation. Typically, Ripple returns most of the tokens to new escrow contracts, with around 700 million XPP going back into escrow following the previous unlock on September 1. This means the actual increase in potentially circulating XRP is generally closer to 200-300 million tokens per month.

The market has come to view these release events as predictable and insignificant when it comes to XRP price, with traders seeing them as already priced in. The XRP Ledger (XRPL) enforces each release, preventing the escrowed tokens from being accessed before their scheduled unlock date.
