Ripple's $48M Bet on Politics: Crypto Industry Dominates Corporate Donors
Ripple's recent foray into politics has raised eyebrows in the crypto community. The company has contributed $48 million to various political campaigns this cycle, making it the second-largest corporate donor in America, behind only Andreessen Horowitz. This staggering amount is part of a larger trend, with the crypto industry as a whole supplying over a third of all corporate election money.
The bulk of Ripple's contribution goes towards Fairshake, the flagship super PAC network of the crypto industry. With $193 million in cash on hand, Fairshake has already spent over $82 million this cycle and has a war chest of $110 million remaining. The funds are divided among three entities: Fairshake itself directs funds to candidates across both parties, while Protect Progress spends in Democratic races and Defend American Jobs spends in Republican ones.
The strategy is deliberate, with the crypto industry targeting primaries where money can move outcomes the furthest per dollar. By backing candidates in low-turnout contests, the network aims to signal its influence without ever needing to win a national argument about digital assets. As one Fairshake spokesperson puts it, the network is now standing infrastructure, not a one-cycle experiment.
