Robinhood Holds $25 Billion in Customer Crypto Not Corporate Bitcoin
A recent claim on X suggested that Robinhood had purchased $25 million in Bitcoin for its corporate treasury. However, the company's financial disclosures reveal no such acquisition. Instead, blockchain analytics firm Arkham Intelligence found that Robinhood holds approximately $25 billion in crypto assets, nearly all of which belongs to its customers.
As of October 1, 2026, Arkham linked around $24.96 billion to $25 billion in digital assets to Robinhood across 1.7 million addresses on 12 different blockchains. These holdings are characterized as customer custody wallets, meaning Robinhood manages the keys but the coins are owned by users. Bitcoin leads the holdings, with roughly 185,185 BTC valued between $15.5 billion and $15.63 billion. Ether follows at approximately 1.576 million ETH, worth about $4.23 billion to $4.24 billion, and Dogecoin totals 30.434 billion DOGE, valued around $2.86 billion to $2.88 billion.
The $25 million figure likely arose from a misunderstanding of Arkham's customer balances report. Robinhood's own filings show over $4 billion in cash, investments, and stablecoins, with no indication of a $25 million corporate Bitcoin purchase. The company has been expanding its crypto offerings, including plans for perpetual trading, and acts as a major liquidity provider for on-chain activity.
The distinction between corporate holdings and customer custody is crucial. For Robinhood shareholders, custody means earnings come from trading activity and services, not from the coins' price swings. For the broader market, confusing exchange wallets with corporate buying can misrepresent institutional demand.
