Rocket Pool Surpasses Lido with 8-ETH Bond Milestone
Rocket Pool's 8-ETH bond has surpassed Lido's 32-ETH barrier, providing greater capital efficiency for node operators.
The introduction of the LEB8 bond allows operators to provide 8 ETH and sufficient RPL to meet the collateral requirement while the protocol pulls 24 ETH from the deposit pool. This setup provides a clear advantage over single 16-ETH minipools with a 20% commission, offering 18% more ETH rewards for a node operator with 16 ETH.
The Atlas upgrade introduced the LEB8 bond, and its adoption has led to a shift in how operators approach the Beacon Chain. With the ability to split capital into smaller pools, operators can earn more by running two 8-ETH minipools at a 14% commission than one 16-ETH minipool at 20%. The maximum RPL stake for an 8-ETH minipool is 12 ETH, or 150% of the bonded amount.
The community deemed that an 8-ETH bond provides sufficient protection, and it offers the same security benefits as a 16-ETH bond. The slashing risk remains a factor for all operators, but the initial penalty has dropped to 1/4096 of the effective balance post-Pectra.
