The Bank of North Dakota has launched its own digital dollar, called Roughrider Coin, on Fiserv's Digital Asset Platform. The platform officially went live on October 1, 2026.

Roughrider Coin is a stablecoin backed 1:1 by US dollars and is permissioned, meaning every token is matched by a real dollar, and only approved participants get access. The token has one job: moving money between banks faster than traditional rails allow.

BND handles governance, while VersaBank is the issuer. Fireblocks provides the infrastructure, Solana is the settlement layer, and Fiserv ties it all together through platform integration.

The usage of Roughrider Coin is limited to bank-to-bank payments within North Dakota's interbank network. Individuals and businesses won't be holding it in their own wallets.
