Russia Opens Crypto Exchange Registration with Some Assets Still in Limbo
Russia's central bank has announced that crypto exchange operators and digital depositories can apply for entry into official registers from October 5. This move is part of a new set of rules that aim to bring order to the country's burgeoning cryptocurrency market, which was envisioned by a law that took effect in September.
The Bank of Russia said that each applicant must document that it meets certain requirements before being considered for entry into the register. These requirements include qualifications for managers and officers, as well as specific documents that must be submitted.
Despite this development, even Bitcoin lacks final retail clearance. The central bank had previously proposed a list of assets for public exchange trading, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Tether's USDT. However, the October admission procedure does not finalize this proposed list.
