Russian MVD Links Cryptocurrency to Illicit Activities

The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) has highlighted the use of cryptocurrency in various illicit activities, including drug trafficking, online casinos, and transferring funds abroad obtained through criminal means. According to a TASS inquiry, the MVD noted that digital currencies are used due to their technological features, such as high anonymity, cross-border capabilities, and decentralization.

The agency identified three key areas where cryptocurrency is used in illegal activities: drug trafficking, online casinos, and transferring funds of criminal origin outside Russia. The combination of anonymity, cross-border capabilities, and decentralization makes cryptocurrency operations attractive for these schemes, the MVD stated.
