Russia's Defense Sector Finds Workarounds to Sanctions

Share

The Ukrainian Defense Intelligence has identified more than a dozen Russian banks and financial entities that help Russia's defense sector bypass international sanctions. According to the report, due to extensive sanctions imposed on Russia's financial sector, the country's defense industry has been forced to seek alternative channels for international payments.

Digital currencies, cross-border payment networks, and the financial infrastructure of other countries not affected by sanctions are being used for this purpose. Specifically, Finzypay, a payment and cryptocurrency platform, uses RubX, a ruble-pegged digital asset developed with Rostec's participation, for conversions and transfers.

The operation of alternative financial channels allows Russia to maintain access to international purchases, including foreign electronic components, technological equipment, raw materials, and other critical resources required for weapons production. This is particularly important for the Russian military-industrial complex, which continues to rely on imports for its operations.
