S&P Global Bolsters Digital Asset Capabilities with OpenZeppelin Acquisition
S&P Global has announced its acquisition of OpenZeppelin, a blockchain security company. This move aims to enhance S&P Global's digital asset capabilities and complement its risk assessment and ecosystem development in the digital market.
The deal, which was announced on Thursday, is intended to bring trusted data, benchmarks, and transparent risk assessment to markets as they transition to on-chain transactions, according to Yann Le Pallec, S&P Global's ratings president. He stated that OpenZeppelin will expand S&P Global's smart contract and on-chain technology risk assessment capabilities.
OpenZeppelin was founded in 2015 and has developed open-source smart contract software. The company has also provided security assessments for blockchain projects and financial institutions, facilitating over $37 trillion in value transferred through its contracts. Additionally, OpenZeppelin has completed more than 900 security engagements, as noted in the announcement.
The contracts library and other open-source applications developed by OpenZeppelin will remain free and publicly maintained on GitHub. The platform will operate as a separate S&P Global business unit, with CEO Demian Brener continuing to lead while reporting to Le Pallec.
