S&P Global Buys OpenZeppelin for Smart Contract Security Expertise

Share

S&P Global has made a significant move into the world of decentralized finance (DeFi) by acquiring OpenZeppelin, a leading smart contract security firm. Founded in 2015, OpenZeppelin has developed one of the most widely used open-source libraries for smart contracts and has conducted over 900 security audits to date.

The company's technology is used by both DeFi projects and traditional financial institutions, and its acquisition reflects S&P Global's strategy to integrate smart contract security and on-chain infrastructure expertise into its corporate structure. This will enable the firm to provide more comprehensive risk assessment capabilities for digital assets.

OpenZeppelin CEO Demian Brener will lead the company as it continues to operate under its own name, remaining a separate business unit within S&P Global. The financial terms of the acquisition agreement have not been disclosed.
