Saylor Prioritizes Crypto Adoption Over Regulatory Certainty
Michael Saylor, Executive Chairman of Strategy Inc., is pushing for widespread adoption of cryptocurrencies over regulatory certainty. He argues that broad acceptance could lead to economic value and a durable political constituency for digital innovation.
Saylor wants regulators and banks to expand products under existing law rather than waiting for comprehensive legislation. He believes that 50 million satisfied users would raise the political cost of reversing crypto policy, making it more difficult for future administrations to restrict digital innovation.
He cited the SEC's conditional relief for on-chain trading of certain tokenized stocks as evidence that existing authority can open markets while investor protections remain in place. Saylor also pointed to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency's decision to ease supervisory barriers to bank crypto custody, urging banks to compete in custody, distribution, payments, and credit rather than seeking protection from better competitors.
The Strategy executive chairman wrote that rapid product launches create earlier customer feedback, investment, and further improvements. He wants the industry to use 2027 and 2028 to deploy products at scale, turn temporary regulatory relief into durable rules, and pursue focused legislation where new authority remains necessary.
