Saylor's Bitcoin Odyssey: From Business Intelligence to Crypto Evangelism
Michael Saylor is a renowned business leader and Bitcoin evangelist. He co-founded MicroStrategy in 1989, which he took public in 1998. The company's growth was remarkable, but it also experienced significant setbacks, including a $6 billion decline in Saylor's net worth due to a financial restatement and related SEC charges.
Saylor eventually stepped back from the CEO role in August 2022 to focus on Bitcoin acquisition strategy and advocacy full-time. He has been instrumental in making MicroStrategy one of the world's largest corporate holders of Bitcoin, with over 847,363 BTC acquired at a total cost basis of nearly $64.1 billion.
In recent months, MicroStrategy has sold portions of its Bitcoin holdings to fund preferred shareholder obligations and maintain a significant cash reserve. The company aims to raise an additional $42 billion over three years through equity and debt offerings specifically to expand its Bitcoin position.
