SBF Accused of Buying Uniswap.com for Seven Figures Before Losing It
Hayden Adams, founder of Uniswap, claims that Sam Bankman-Fried spent seven figures on the Uniswap.com domain before losing it. According to Adams, Bankman-Fried met the initial domain holders' demand for a seven-figure payment and redirected the domain to SushiSwap, a rival decentralized exchange platform.
The domain reportedly pointed users to SushiSwap's interface in 2021, which led Uniswap Labs to submit a formal complaint. The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) examined archived versions of the website and photographic evidence demonstrating the redirect.
WIPO determined that Uniswap Labs held legitimate registered trademark rights for UNISWAP and that the redirect presented a substantial risk of consumer confusion. As a result, WIPO mandated the transfer of Uniswap.com to Uniswap Labs without requiring compensation.
