SBI Holdings Completes Acquisition of Bitbank for ¥46.7 Billion
SBI Holdings has completed its full acquisition of Bitbank for ¥46.7 billion ($294.9 million), making it one of Japan's largest exchanges a wholly owned subsidiary.
The deal, which was announced in June, brings together two companies with distinct customer bases and strengths: SBI VC Trade, a registered crypto asset exchange service provider in Japan that focuses on institutional investors, and Bitbank, known for its retail investor base.
The acquisition price totals ¥46.7 billion, combining share purchases and subscription to a third-party allotment of new shares. The management structure has been overhauled, with Tomohiko Kondo, president of SBI VC Trade, joining Bitbank's board of directors.
Bitbank will continue operating its existing exchange services without changes after joining the SBI Group. Users can expect the same service environment they have experienced to date.
