Schumer Presses Crypto Industry to Break with Trump on Ethics

Share

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is pushing the crypto industry to distance itself from President Donald Trump on ethics language related to a collapsed bill. The Clarity Act, which aimed to regulate the crypto market, was rejected due to disagreements on ethics restrictions. Schumer stated that Democrats cannot support a bill without strong ethics guardrails, citing concerns that Trump could use his presidential authority to profit from crypto. He urged the crypto industry to 'break' with Trump and adopt ethics restrictions, but they refused.

The industry had spent eight figures on campaign spending against former Sen. Sherrod Brown, who was a key proponent of the Clarity Act. Schumer had maintained for months that he wanted a crypto market structure bill with bipartisan ethics restrictions on Trump. However, the industry's refusal to adopt ethics restrictions led to the bill's demise.
