SEC Accuses DEBT Box Operators of $200 Million Crypto Ponzi Scheme

Share

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has filed a lawsuit against the operators of DEBT Box, a cryptocurrency investment platform, alleging a $200 million Ponzi scheme. The SEC claims that Blox Lending LLC, Digital Licensing Inc., and three of their principals raised funds from over 100,000 investors by falsely asserting that commodity royalties backed their digital tokens.

According to the SEC's Wednesday complaint, the defendants violated the Securities Act of 1933 and the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 by making false and misleading statements in connection with the sale of unregistered securities. The SEC alleges that the operators used investor funds in a Ponzi-like scheme to simulate revenue, deceiving investors about the true nature of their investments.

The lawsuit highlights the ongoing risks in the cryptocurrency market, where unregulated platforms can exploit investors with false promises of high returns. The SEC's action underscores the importance of regulatory oversight in protecting investors from fraudulent schemes.
