SEC Exemption Fuels Baird's Coinbase Confidence
Baird has reiterated its Neutral rating on Coinbase Global Inc., citing a positive regulatory development from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The SEC's 'Innovation Exemption' allows cryptocurrency exchanges to offer tokenized equities, which Baird views as a significant move for Coinbase.
This new exemption enables Coinbase to offer tokenized equities with full shareholder rights to clients, making its asset class offerings more comparable to those of Robinhood Markets Inc.,
The regulatory change comes amid reduced competition from traditional finance firms in cryptocurrency trading, according to Baird. The firm has also cited the rebound in trading volumes and favorable regulatory activity as factors in its assessment.
However, Baird noted that Coinbase currently appears overvalued relative to its Fair Value, based on analysis by InvestingPro.
