SEC Leadership Slips to Two Commissioners Amid Crypto Regulation Flux
U.S. crypto regulation is facing leadership flux as Hester Peirce, an SEC Republican commissioner, prepares to leave her post on October 2nd. This departure will reduce the SEC to two commissioners: Chair Paul Atkins and Mark Uyeda.
The CFTC has been led by Chair Michael Selig as the sole commissioner since December 2025, after acting chair Caroline Pham departed. The agency welcomes new Commissioners upon nomination and confirmation by the U.S. Senate.
President Donald Trump is responsible for nominating replacements to fill the SEC and CFTC leadership vacancies. While a White House official stated that Trump intends to nominate members 'in the near future,' no public announcement detailing who those nominees might be has been made yet.
