U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Commissioner Hester Peirce's comments on crypto vaults have been interpreted as a sign that the agency is moving towards formalizing decentralized finance (DeFi) regulation.

Peirce reiterated the SEC's stance that activity executed on a blockchain does not automatically exempt it from federal securities laws, but emphasized that crypto vaults and on-chain asset management strategies warrant separate, dedicated regulatory discussions.
