Senate Blocks Clarity Bill, Cryptocurrency Regulation Remains Uncertain

The U.S. Senate's defeat of the CLARITY Act has dealt a blow to efforts to establish clear federal rules for digital assets, leaving the crypto market in limbo.

The bill aimed to provide clarity on how digital assets would be regulated, but it failed to advance after Senate Democrats opposed moving forward.

Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., accused Democrats of prioritizing politics over policy, saying they chose to score points in their conflict with President Donald Trump rather than advancing a regulatory framework that could benefit Americans.

The defeat of the bill has extended uncertainty over U.S. crypto regulation, and Sen. Scott criticized the vote as highly politicized, saying it would continue to delay clarity for digital-asset markets.
