Senate Dems Push for Anti-Corruption Agency Targeting Trump's Crypto Profits

Share

US Senate Democrats have proposed an anti-corruption agency to investigate and prevent executive-branch corruption, specifically targeting US President Donald Trump's cryptocurrency business profits. The 'Anti-Corruption Bureau Establishment Act' submitted by Senator Chuck Schumer would consolidate functions of existing agencies under one organization with real power and enforcement authority.

The proposed agency is in response to allegations that Trump disclosed earning more than $2 billion from investments in 2025, including $1.4 billion linked to cryptocurrency. The bill also cites the Trump family holding over $1 billion in a crypto fund connected to foreign governments.

Democrats are objecting to the digital asset market clarification bill, known as the Clarity Act, due to concerns that it does not address Trump's potential conflicts of interest. Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Van Hollen have expressed concerns about the Clarity Act's prospects for passage in the current session.

The bill requires bipartisan support to become law, with Republicans holding narrow majorities in both chambers. Even if passed, a veto by President Trump could delay its implementation.
