Senate Rejects Crypto Bill Amid Trump's Personal Profits
The cryptocurrency industry's dream bill, the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, has been defeated in the Senate due to President Donald Trump's conflict of interest. The bill aimed to give the crypto industry a favorable regulatory and legal footing after industry players faced dozens of lawsuits for failing to comply with corporate transparency laws.
However, several Democrats opposed the bill citing Trump's personal profiteering from digital assets. Sen. Elizabeth Warren said that 'Donald Trump has enriched himself at such a grotesque level, it's hard to see the sun around that.'
Despite some Republicans supporting the bill and including a provision on presidential ethics, Democrats remained unconvinced. They pointed out that the proposal still left ethics enforcement up to the U.S. attorney general, allowing the Trump administration to police itself.
