SHIB Sees Record-Breaking Deflationary Wave Amid Price Surge
The Shiba Inu (SHIB) cryptocurrency has seen an unprecedented deflationary wave, with a burn rate spike of 5,223.98% in just one day. This means that over 401 million tokens were permanently removed from circulation, according to the SHIBBurn portal.
This sudden deflation has rewritten the weekly statistics, with the burn rate increasing by 816.02% over the past seven days, removing a total of 457.5 billion SHIB from circulation.
The price of SHIB also surged by nearly 40% in a day, but experts caution that this may not have any direct impact on the coin's market value. The hundreds of millions of burned tokens represent only a small fraction of the total supply, which still stands at an astronomical 589 trillion.
The increase in spot market trading activity is likely behind the higher volumes and accompanying transactions, rather than the deflation itself. However, the impressive burn rate has had a significant psychological impact on holders.
