SilkBank Georgia Rolls Out Direct USDT Purchases and Transfers
SilkBank Georgia has made it easier for customers to buy and transfer stablecoins directly within its mobile app. Starting from September 21, 2026, users can purchase and transfer USDT (Tether's stablecoin) without needing to use third-party exchanges or bridge apps.
The bank is offering a promotional 0% commission on all USDT transactions during this period. This move aims to lower the barrier for users who have been hesitant to enter the crypto market due to transaction costs, which can range from 0.1% to 1.5% on centralized exchanges.
Aleksandre Dghebuadze, SilkBank's Crypto Product Owner, emphasizes that stablecoins play a significant role in facilitating global transfers and should be seen as a utility rather than a speculative asset. Georgia is making progress in the adoption of digital assets, with Tether planning to issue a GEL₮ stablecoin pegged to the Georgian lari.
The Silk app already supports traditional banking services like P2P transfers and payments alongside its digital asset features, bundling conventional and crypto financial services into one interface.
