SMX Expands Digital Material Passport to Blockchain
SMX (Security Matters) PLC has expanded its Digital Material Passport platform to connect physical materials to the digital blockchain, allowing for verified material assets and new markets.
The expansion comes as SMX's approach to plastics and the circular economy gains broader attention. The company's technology uses molecular markers to authenticate what a material is, where it came from, and how it moves through its lifecycle.
The Digital Material Passport platform creates a continuous chain: material → passport → blockchain → market → credit. It connects physical identity to a secure digital record containing information about origin, composition, chain of custody, recycled content, manufacturing history, and lifecycle status.
SMX is also opening a new client experience that allows companies to bring their own plastic into the process and test how it can be marked, identified, authenticated, and connected to a Digital Material Passport. The company's platform is designed to connect two markets: the physical plastics economy and the digital economy built around data, verification, and tokenized real-world assets.
By verifying and carrying the identity of plastic into the digital world, SMX's infrastructure allows for authenticated material to participate in digital and real-world asset markets. The platform can support compliance and certification but also extend into material trading, real-world asset digitization, and circularity credits.
