Bank of Russia Targets Illicit Crypto Exchanges by July 1, 2027

Share

The Bank of Russia has set a deadline for illicit cryptocurrency exchanges to cease operations by July 1, 2027. This decision comes after legislation was signed into law on August 4, 2026, which recognizes digital currency as property and assigns market oversight to the central bank.

The law's main provisions took effect on September 1, 2026, and exchanges operating outside of the Bank of Russia's registry have until July 1, 2027, to comply with regulations. The Bank of Russia aims to eliminate grey areas related to cryptocurrency exchanges by this date.
