Solana Accelerates with Major Network Upgrades Amid Record Activity
Solana's network activity is at an all-time high as the blockchain launches major upgrades to boost performance and capacity. One key change is the new V1 transaction format, which triples the amount of data that can be packed into a single transaction from 1,248 bytes to 4,096 bytes.
This upgrade will allow developers to bundle complex actions into one transaction, reducing the risk of partial completion if one part fails. It also gives developers more flexibility in constructing transactions and includes information about computing needs and transaction fees directly within the transaction.
Meanwhile, Solana is pushing ahead with another major change: reducing the time between slots from 250ms to 200ms. This will make the network more responsive, allowing it to produce a new slot about five times per second. However, this also means validators must process and share blocks reliably in progressively tighter intervals.
The upgrades come as Solana's activity accelerates, with record transaction counts, revenue generation, and stablecoin activity all contributing to increased demand on the network. Last week, decentralized exchanges on Solana handled $16.59 billion in volume, while tokenized equities reached a record $684 million in supply.
