Solana Cuts Slot-Time by 50ms in Step Towards 200ms Network
Solana's network has just become faster, thanks to an upgrade that reduces the slot-time from 400ms to 350ms. This change is part of a four-step plan to reach a 200ms slot time, which would make Solana one of the fastest networks in the industry.
The reduction was first proposed in SIMD-469 and later approved as SIMD-0525. The upgrade aims to improve latency and increase censorship resistance by limiting the monopoly a leader holds over block building.
Solana's native token $SOL has seen a 4.4% increase in value following the news, but experts say that this is not directly due to the upgrade. Instead, it's likely a result of the overall market conditions and the broader lift in altcoins.
The Solana Foundation frames the upgrade as a significant improvement in performance gains, particularly in Turbine and Replay. However, markets tend to price this as a quiet competence signal rather than a catalyst for price movement.
