Solana Foundation Launches Instant Trade Settlement Program
The Solana Foundation has introduced Solana DvP, a new program designed to revolutionize trade settlement for financial institutions. Launched on October 6, this open-source tool enables instant settlement of trades, reducing the typical one- to two-day wait to just seconds. The program, developed with input from JPMorgan, aims to eliminate counterparty risk by settling both asset and payment in a single atomic blockchain transaction.
Traditional settlement processes involve multiple intermediaries and can take days to complete, creating risks such as principal risk, where one party delivers while the other fails. Solana DvP addresses this by ensuring both sides of a trade are settled simultaneously or not at all. The program also standardizes the settlement process, replacing the need for custom smart contracts for each deal.
JPMorgan contributed its expertise in settlement practices but did not build or operate the program. The program includes features like deadlines for trades, escrow accounts for assets and payments, and support for both the Token-2022 and original SPL Token standards. An external audit by Cantina identified and resolved four medium-risk issues before launch. Privacy features for confidential settlements are planned for future updates.
The Solana Foundation emphasized that the program has undergone rigorous security audits and is ready for real-world deployment. The launch marks a significant step toward reducing settlement risks and improving efficiency in financial transactions.
