Solana Foundation Launches Institutional-Grade Atomic Settlement Program
The Solana Foundation has unveiled Solana DvP, an open-source escrow program designed to offer financial institutions a standardized API for delivery-versus-payment (DvP) settlements on the Solana blockchain. Released under the MIT license, the program aims to provide institutional-grade settlement certainty, a feature traditionally lacking in public blockchain infrastructure. It ensures atomic settlement, meaning both asset and cash transfers occur simultaneously or not at all, eliminating counterparty risk. J.P. Morgan collaborated closely with the Solana Foundation, contributing expertise in institutional settlement practices.
Catherine Gu, Head of Product for Digital Assets at the Solana Foundation, emphasized that atomic settlement removes the counterparty risk inherent in traditional finance. Rhodel D’souza, Head of Markets Digital Assets at J.P. Morgan, highlighted the importance of a shared, open standard for atomic DvP, which reduces settlement risk and counterparty exposure for institutional market participants.
Solana DvP supports SPL Token and Token-2022, including extensions critical for regulated issuers, such as permanent delegate, pausable tokens, and transfer hooks. The program is versatile, allowing any two counterparties to use it with any settlement agent, whether a bank, custodian, or exchange. The program has undergone external security audits and is ready for use with real funds, with plans to add privacy features for confidential trade settlements.
The Solana Foundation is seeking design partners and early participants ahead of the production release. More information is available on their website, and the code can be explored on GitHub.
