Solana Foundation Launches Program for Instant Institutional Trade Settlements
The Solana Foundation has launched Solana DvP, an open-source program designed to revolutionize institutional trading by enabling near-instantaneous settlement of asset and payment transfers on-chain. This innovation reduces counterparty risk, a longstanding challenge in traditional finance where settlements typically take one to two days and involve multiple intermediaries.
Solana DvP settles trades atomically, meaning both the asset and payment are transferred together or not at all, ensuring immediate finality. The program is externally audited and aims to replace the custom settlement contracts currently used by institutions, providing a standardized solution for the growing tokenized asset market on Solana.
JPMorgan contributed expertise to the project, helping to shape requirements around deadlines, escrow isolation, and token extensions like pausable tokens and transfer hooks under Solana’s Token-2022 standard. The foundation plans to add privacy features to meet institutional demands for confidential settlements, a key requirement highlighted at the Consensus Hong Kong event earlier this year.
Solana has already been involved in notable tokenization projects, including a commercial paper deal arranged by JPMorgan and settled in USDC for Galaxy Digital. The introduction of Solana DvP could streamline such transactions, making them more efficient and scalable.
