Solana Launches Open Atomic Settlement Standard for Institutions
On 6 October 2026, Solana introduced an open atomic settlement standard called Solana DvP. The standard, licensed under MIT, aims to facilitate institutional delivery-versus-payment settlement. Developed with input from J.P. Morgan, it employs isolated escrow to ensure both legs of a transaction settle simultaneously or not at all. This atomic execution prevents one side of the exchange from completing without the other.
The open license allows institutions to adopt this standard for their settlement implementations. For Solana (SOL), the hope is that institutions will embrace this settlement model, boosting its institutional adoption narrative. However, the announcement marks the establishment of a standard, not yet its production use or actual settlement flows.
Previously, institutions settling on-chain typically relied on custom smart contracts. Solana DvP now offers a shared, open standard for atomic delivery-versus-payment, informed by J.P. Morgan's expertise in securities settlement practices. The production release is still pending.
