Solana Network Clock Speed Boosted 17% with Target Block Time Reduction
Solana's network has seen a significant boost in performance after reducing its target block time from 300 milliseconds to 250 milliseconds. This adjustment, implemented on Friday, represents an approximate 17% increase in network clock speed.
The change affects the time window for validators to add blocks, which is now approximately 4 seconds per second, up from around 3.3 seconds previously. This should result in more real-time data for wallets, exchanges, and trading applications.
However, despite the boost in clock speed, the network's transaction capacity remains unchanged, according to SIMD-0525. Each time slot still allows for the same amount of computational and data processing, but at a lower latency.
