Solana Squeaks Past Double Disinflation Proposal in Tense Governance Cycle
Solana's first on-chain governance cycle concluded on Thursday with mixed results. Two of three proposals passed, while one was rejected.
The Solana Constitution (SGP-0001) and Double Disinflation proposal (SGP-0002) both cleared the two-thirds approval threshold required for adoption, but the Resource and Inclusion Fee proposal (SGP-0003) fell short with 53.90% support.
The new Solana Constitution enables formal on-chain voting, which will be hosted by the svmgov program. This change is expected to shape all future protocol changes. The Double Disinflation proposal doubles Solana's annual disinflation rate from 15% to 30%, effectively reducing projected SOL issuance by about 18.9 million tokens over six years.
The vote came down to a last-minute reversal by Kraken's validator, which initially opposed the measure but eventually switched sides as the deadline approached. The proposal passed with exactly 67.00% support.
