Standard Chartered has expanded its institutional custody services to include Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin, marking a significant step in its digital asset strategy. The bank’s Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) branch now supports RLUSD on the XRP Ledger (XRPL), allowing eligible institutional clients to utilize its custody infrastructure for the stablecoin.
The multinational bank is also exploring a collaboration with LMAX Group, an institutional trading company, to enable RLUSD as trading collateral. This model aims to let clients hold RLUSD in Standard Chartered’s custody while using it as collateral on LMAX’s platform, potentially reducing transfer risks and improving exposure management.
Ripple and LMAX Group had previously announced a partnership in January 2026 to promote institutional adoption of RLUSD. However, the additional collateral capabilities are still pending final documentation, regulatory approvals, and internal sign-offs.
Cointelegraph reached out to Standard Chartered for further details and will update the article once a response is received.
