StarkWare Deploys First Quantum-Resistant Bitcoin Transaction on Mainnet
StarkWare has executed what it describes as the first quantum-resistant transaction on the Bitcoin mainnet. The company achieved this using its Quantum Safe Bitcoin (QSB) technology, which replaces traditional elliptic curve cryptography with a hash-based cryptographic system designed to withstand future quantum computers.
The QSB implementation operates within Bitcoin's existing script standards, allowing for immediate deployment without requiring a soft fork or changes to the network's consensus rules. This means high-value holders and institutions can use this technology now to protect themselves against potential quantum threats.
However, the transaction cost is estimated to be between $75 and $150 per transfer, making it more expensive than standard Bitcoin transactions. The technology also requires direct submission to miners due to its non-standard script structure.
