Stolen Power Fuels Mexico's Illicit Crypto Mining Operation

Mexican authorities have uncovered a massive illicit crypto mining operation in the Sierra Norte mountains of Puebla, Mexico. The facility was using stolen electricity from the nearby Nuevo Necaxa hydroelectric dam to power its operations.

The raid, which took place between September 6 and 8, resulted in the seizure of approximately 300 GPUs, electrical transformers, and satellite antennas.

This is not an isolated incident; it marks Puebla's fourth bust of an illegal crypto mining operation since early 2025. Authorities suspect organized crime involvement, with potential connections to major cartels including the Sinaloa Cartel and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
