Strategy boosts Bitcoin holdings to 848,000 after $28.7 million purchase
Bitcoin treasury firm Strategy has boosted its holdings to a new milestone after acquiring 334 BTC between Oct. 1 and Oct. 4. The purchase cost $28.7 million, bringing the company's total bitcoin position to exactly 848,000 BTC. The latest addition was made at an average price of $85,838.80 per coin, which is higher than Strategy's overall average acquisition price of $75,440.70. This latest investment has increased the company's total cost basis to $63.97 billion.
The company funded the purchase with a mix of cash and proceeds from selling its own stock. Strategy generated $15.7 million from selling 92,894 shares of its stock, while another $13 million came from its U.S. dollar cash reserves. Concurrently, Strategy spent $73.7 million on repurchasing 740,634 shares of its stock between Oct. 1 and Oct. 4, following a $102.6 million stock repurchase from Sept. 28 to Sept. 30.
Executive Chairman Michael Saylor revealed that the company posted a $21 billion gain on digital assets in the third quarter of 2026. He stated, "Strategy reports a $21 billion gain on digital assets in Q3 2026. Last week, we acquired 334 BTC and repurchased $176M of STRC. As of 10/4/26, we hold 848,000 BTC and $5.7B of USD Assets." The company's filing put the estimated third-quarter digital asset gain at $20.91 billion, with a digital asset carrying value of $70.82 billion as of Sept. 30.
