Strategy boosts Bitcoin holdings to 848,000 BTC with $28.7 million purchase
Strategy, a Bitcoin treasury firm, has expanded its holdings to exactly 848,000 BTC after purchasing 334 BTC between October 1 and October 4, 2026. The acquisition cost $28.7 million, with the average price per Bitcoin standing at $85,838.80. This is significantly higher than the company's overall average acquisition price of $75,440.70, bringing Strategy's total cost basis to approximately $63.97 billion.
The latest purchase was funded through a combination of cash and proceeds from selling MSTR stock. Strategy raised $15.7 million from selling 92,894 MSTR shares and an additional $13 million from its U.S. dollar cash reserves. Concurrently, the company repurchased 740,634 shares of STRC for $73.7 million during the same four-day period, following a previous $102.6 million STRC repurchase between September 28 and September 30, 2026.
Michael Saylor, Executive Chairman of Strategy, highlighted the company's substantial gains in Q3 2026. He reported a $21 billion gain on digital assets and noted that Strategy holds 848,000 BTC alongside $5.7 billion in USD assets as of October 4, 2026. The estimated digital asset gain for the third quarter is $20.91 billion, with a carrying value of $70.82 billion as of September 30, 2026.
Saylor also provided additional financial details, stating that the USD duration is 3.6 years and STRC's BTC credit is 50 basis points, assuming a 10% BTC annual return rate, 40% BTC volatility, and a BTC price of $84,289. With the latest acquisition, Strategy's Bitcoin holdings have once again reached a notable milestone.
