Strategy boosts bitcoin holdings to 848,000 with $28.7 million purchase
Strategy made significant moves in bitcoin and stock repurchases in early October 2026. The company acquired 334 bitcoin between October 1 and October 4, spending $28.7 million at an average price of $85,838.8 per bitcoin. These purchases were funded through the sale of 92,894 shares of its Class A common stock (MSTR Stock), which generated $15.7 million in proceeds. As of October 4, Strategy held a total of 848,000 bitcoin, with a total cost basis of approximately $63.97 billion and an average purchase price of $75,440.7 per bitcoin.
The company also continued its share repurchase programs. Between September 28 and September 30, 2026, Strategy repurchased 1,033,168 shares of STRC Stock for $102.6 million. From October 1 to October 4, it repurchased an additional 740,634 STRC shares for $73.7 million. As of October 4, $547.2 million remained available under the company’s digital credit securities repurchase program, and $1.0 billion under its MSTR Stock repurchase program.
Financial estimates for the third quarter ended September 30, 2026, included a $20.91 billion gain on digital assets and a $1.88 billion associated deferred tax expense. Strategy estimated the digital asset carrying value at $70.82 billion and a net deferred tax liability of $1.88 billion related to its bitcoin holdings. The company also reported reversing a $4.12 billion deferred tax asset recorded as of June 30, 2026, following bitcoin’s fair value exceeding its cost basis by September 30, 2026.
As of October 4, 2026, Strategy’s USD Reserve stood at $4.88 billion and its USD Cash balance was $833.4 million. The company had $18.83 billion in MSTR Stock remaining available for issuance and sale under its ATM program.
