Strategy Inc. Sees 5.7% Jump in Stock Price Amid Crypto Market Rally
Strategy Inc.'s stock price surged 5.7% to EUR 142.86 on Tuesday, marking a significant move in line with the broader crypto market. The company's valuation is heavily influenced by its large Bitcoin holdings, which now total 847,666 BTC, acquired at a cost of $142.7 million between September 21 and 27. This latest capital-markets maneuver is consistent with the company's pattern of buying more coins with additional shares.
The relationship between Strategy's share price and Bitcoin value is closely tied, with the company's premium over the value of its crypto stash a key factor in its valuation. As long as the market awards a healthy premium, issuing new shares to buy more coins increases the Bitcoin-per-share metric. However, if the premium compresses, the same mechanism works in reverse, and existing holders absorb the dilution without the offsetting benefit.
The company's management, led by Executive Chairman Michael Saylor, has framed the competitive landscape in expansive terms, arguing that Strategy and fellow Bitcoin-treasury player Strive may compete for individual capital inflows but together strengthen the wider market for Bitcoin-backed digital credit.
The risks associated with Strategy's business model are structural and significant. Further gains in Treasury yields could quickly snuff out risk appetite, and a decline in Bitcoin value would amplify the downside for Strategy's stock.
