Strategy Inc's Stock Soars 72% After Rebuilding Cushion Amid Ongoing Bitcoin Volatility
Strategy Inc's stock (MSTR) has been on a rollercoaster ride over the past year, losing 53% of its value but rebounding by 72% in just three months. The company's struggles began when Bitcoin peaked at $126,000 and then dropped to around $58,700, causing an $8.3 billion unrealized loss for Strategy.
The damage was compounded by a thinning dollar reserve, which fell from over $4.5 billion to just $871 million in May. This had a ripple effect on the company's preferred stock (STRC), which dropped below its target range of $99 to $100 and caused a funding scare.
However, the situation began to reverse itself as the dollar reserve rebounded to $4.8 billion by August 18, with Strategy setting aside an additional $1.6 billion for Bitcoin purchases and buybacks. Bitcoin itself rallied after President Donald Trump's comments on crypto legislation and Treasury support for long-dated bonds.
The combination of a rebuilt cushion and a rising Bitcoin price helped to lift MSTR stock by over 9% in one session, with the company still trading below its all-time highs.
