Strategy Reaffirms Commitment to Bitcoin Accumulation
Strategy Inc., formerly MicroStrategy, continues to accumulate Bitcoin under CEO Phong Le's leadership. Despite selling around 7,000 BTC in 2026, Strategy remains committed to buying and holding Bitcoin for the long term. The company now controls more than 4% of the total supply, with approximately 845,050 BTC on its balance sheet as of early September 2026.
The firm's net purchase rate has been significant, with roughly 25 times its sales volume in 2026. Strategy purchased around 175,000 BTC while selling 7,000 BTC during the same period. The most recent acquisition involved buying 4,603 BTC at an average price of about $80,318 per coin, totaling approximately $369.7 million.
Strategy's transformation from an enterprise software company to a publicly traded Bitcoin vault has been underway since 2020, when it made its first significant Bitcoin purchase under founder Michael Saylor's direction. The rebranding from MicroStrategy to Strategy Inc. in 2022 was a cosmetic acknowledgment of the company's shift in focus.
Strategy intends to remain the largest purchaser of Bitcoin for the foreseeable future, according to Le. The firm has outlined plans to raise up to $80 billion through debt and equity offerings, with the proceeds earmarked for more Bitcoin. This financing architecture includes the STRC preferred stock, a financial product engineered to attract income-oriented investors.
