Strategy Seeks to Reboot Bitcoin Drive Amid Record Loss
Strategy, the world's largest corporate Bitcoin holder, has responded to its multibillion-dollar loss with a trademark message from chairman Michael Saylor. In a post that may be interpreted as a signal that the company is ending its forced defensive phase and preparing to return to major cryptocurrency purchases, Saylor wrote 'Bitcoin Drive engaged.'
The message comes after Strategy posted a net loss of $8.22 billion for the second quarter of 2026 due to a massive accounting loss on its assets resulting from a 14% fall in Bitcoin's value over the three-month period.
Strategy currently holds 843,775 BTC, representing more than 4% of Bitcoin's total maximum supply, with an average purchase price of $75,653 per coin. The portfolio's unrealized loss exceeds $10 billion, and earlier this month Strategy broke its 'never sell' principle for the first time in its history by selling $218.4 million worth of BTC to fund dividend payments.
Despite this, Saylor's latest hint suggests that it is far too early to write off the company's strategy. According to its financial statements, Strategy managed to build a formidable financial defense during the market decline and has accumulated a record $3.75 billion cash reserve. It also reduced its convertible debt by 18%, to $6.7 billion.
