Strategy Soars as Bitcoin Rally Lifts Company Back into Profit
Bitcoin's surge past $77,000 has put Strategy, led by Michael Saylor, back in profit on its massive Bitcoin holding. The company's 840,447 BTC stash is now worth over $65.5 billion, exceeding its cost basis of around $63.36 billion. This significant gain puts Strategy up more than $2 billion as a result of the rally.
The increase in value has also had a positive impact on MSTR investors, with the stock rising by over 11% in pre-market trading. The price climbed from its Thursday close of $112.339 to around $126 early Friday morning.
This Bitcoin cycle began after two key catalysts emerged: the US Treasury's decision to more than double its long-dated bond buybacks, and a White House gathering that included President Donald Trump, crypto executives, and regulatory officials. The rally has continued with buyers lining up and short liquidations totaling over $3 billion.
Strategy had faced criticism for selling Bitcoin during the week ending August 16, but it appears to have paused sales and instead built up a significant cash reserve of around $4.8 billion. The company's long-term accumulation strategy has been defended through dividend payments and preferred stock buybacks.
