A security incident hit cross-chain protocol Symbiosis on September 11, as an attacker exploited its Bitcoin Bridge, minting approximately 46.1 billion unbacked syBTC tokens.

The hacker sold only a small portion of the fake tokens through Uniswap on Ethereum, netting about $336,000 in real proceeds.

Symbiosis has since recovered around 15 BTC, worth approximately $1.15 million at current prices, and is holding it in a team-controlled multisig wallet.

The protocol offered a 20% white-hat bounty to the attacker, with a deadline of September 13. After that date, Symbiosis will offer the same reward to anyone who provides information leading to further fund recovery.
