Taiwan Targets Digital Finance Hub by 2030 with Virtual Asset Roadmap
Taiwan Mobile President Jamie Lin has outlined a three-stage roadmap for Taiwan's virtual asset development, aiming to position the country as a digital finance hub by 2030. Currently, the virtual asset penetration rate in Taiwan stands at only about 5%, but with record-high exports and ten firms completing Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) compliance registration, the groundwork is being laid.
According to Lin, the key lies in building a compliant service framework that supports general users, enterprises, and financial institutions. He emphasized that Taiwan cannot simply pursue growth in the trading population; it must build underlying infrastructure capable of serving these groups simultaneously.
The three-stage roadmap begins with digital asset reserves in the first stage, expands DeFi applications in the second, and moves toward blockchain-based financial infrastructure in the third. Lin cited industry data showing that global stablecoin transaction volume has reached $7.6 trillion, demonstrating the practical usage of blockchain in payment and settlement.
Taiwan Mobile is pursuing a parallel strategy in the Web3 space, targeting both general users and the institutional market. On the general user side, the company has fully opened its proprietary virtual asset exchange TWEX this year, providing a compliant and simplified user experience. In the institutional market, Taiwan Mobile has secured master distributor rights for Liminal, addressing the needs of financial institutions and enterprises in asset custody, access control, and compliance auditing.
