Tech Giants Google and Apple Dive into Stablecoin Market with Key Hires
Two of the world's biggest companies, Google and Apple, are hiring for roles that suggest they're taking a serious interest in stablecoins. A job listing on Google Cloud's website shows the company is looking to fill an Industry Principal Architect position based in Hong Kong. The role will involve helping banks, exchanges, and custodians tokenize their Risk-Weighted Assets (RWAs) across the Asia-Pacific region.
The listing requires experience with blockchain networks, smart contracts, stablecoin infrastructure, and custody technology. This hire is likely to contribute to Google's Web3 roadmap. Apple, on the other hand, is seeking an Apple Pay Financial Product Strategy Lead to work on Apple Card, Apple Cash, and peer-to-peer payments.
While neither company has made an official announcement about a new product or service, these job postings indicate that stablecoins and tokenized deposits are becoming essential skills for big tech companies. Google Cloud has already collaborated with the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) Group to test tokenization and blockchain payments in 2025.
The European Central Bank (ECB) is also exploring tokenization, having launched Pontes, a platform that enables banks to settle tokenized asset transactions using central-bank euros. However, this move is seen as a response to the growing popularity of dollar-backed stablecoins and their potential impact on commercial banks' deposits.
